LITTLE HEARTS OF AFRICA

From opening Becky School in 2015 to 2025 we marvel at the hand of God and thank those who have so graciously partnered with us at Little Hearts of Africa.  Becky school is a haven to over 200 children who would otherwise not be able to go to school.  We go up to the Fifth Grade and support our first Sixth Graders who had to go on to be educated in a new school since we don’t go past the Fifth grade.  None of this would be possible without God’s Mighty Hand upon us and our gracious donors!  So with that we say THANK YOU!  💋💋
Also we have 15 rescue students who have been brought to Becky School - Mary will update us on these precious children as time goes by.  We want them to feel loved & accepted & pray they will take root & grow in the Lord & socially & mentally as well! ​

So proud of Mary and Nester and the staff at Becky School and all the hard working teachers!  Thankful for our beautiful students and their parents! May God be glorified through Little Hearts ❤️and Becky School!  It is truly an honor and privilege to walk beside all of these beautiful people and especially the daughter from Kibera God has given me so graciously - Mary!  She named And founded Becky School and it is our school together but it could easily be called Mary’s School!  May God bless us and keep us and shine His face upon us - and turn His face towards us and give us peace as a ministry of HIS!  God Bless you and Keep you also….. Becky School has undergone tremendous growth and expansion since its origin in 2015.  Initial enrollment was a handful of kids Mary went looking for - to 200 kids today in 2025.  It is a haven to all who attend.  We have upgraded bathrooms and a newlynrenovated kitchen - our children receive 2 meals a day and they are provided a very good education along with lots of love & nurture from very qualified teachers,  we have added a classroom a year and we are capped at the 5th grade.  However, our current Sixth graders have been sent on to further their education through the support of Little Hearts of Africa- see photo below.  We are so proud of these students who started at Becky School & went on to continue their education……..

Our Story......

"Step by step, breath by breath"

Southern Living boldly states; life is EATING, laughing, loving and a place to enjoy together. Becky's School is also a place for the children to enjoy together, loving, laughing and learning! However, EATING is always a concern. Tucked in the slum of Kibera, Becky School was started by a young lady who grew up in Kibera and still lives there today.  Her name is Mary.  Mary went and found young children who would otherwise not get to attend school due to lack of funds.  These young little hearts are being given the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.  

Steve and I had given Mary money for college tuition before Becky School began.  But at the time, Mary needed more than just tuition money - she needed transportation, boarding, books and food money in order to go to the University.  (It is a long story as to why all of this doesn't quite make sense....BUT THE FACT that is important....is GOD WAS FAITHFUL AND HE HAD A PLAN even when I didn't have a clue as to what was going on).  We just kept asking for wisdom and God provided that.  When we gave Mary her tuition money I told her that I WAS NOT HER SOURCE and that GOD was.  I told Mary that she had to ask GOD to give her wisdom as to how she could make this money provide for her and her family.  I didn't know what I was talking about at the time other than I knew that I couldn't be viewed as Mary's source.  GOD had to be her provider.  Mary did something that I could never have dreamed up.  She applied to start a school for the little children in Kibera.  She asked if she could name the school after me.  I just remember asking Steve if that would be conceited and he said, "No, I think it would be sweet."  So that is how Becky School started.   LITTLE HEARTS OF AFRICA started after Becky School started.   Steve and I felt Little Hearts of Africa could become a way for us to come alongside Becky School and other Little Hearts (big and small) that God put in our pathway to provide the love of GOD, food, water, shelter and education. 

This amazing young lady, is the little heart that God so strategically brought into my life September 2013, when I went on a mission trip to Nairobi, Africa. Clueless as I was, God had a plan. Instantly I fell in love with Mary! Never to be the same! (God actually brought 14 amazing people into my life that trip.  I so love each and everyone of them!)
I say all of this, because Steve and I had the vision to start Little Hearts of Africa in 2015. It became a reality August 2015..... Almost 2 years to the date of me going to Africa. It was  a long process ....as Mary and I always say, "it's step by step, breath by breath". It's a faith walk. It's going through uncharted territory for Steve and myself and our family as a whole. Of course it's step by step for Mary and the teachers on the other side in Africa too! We are all learning as we go.

Little Hearts of Africa comes alongside Becky school to help it be the best environment for these little hearts that God places in our care to learn, grow and succeed. It is exciting to see it all unfold.  We provide salaries for 5 teachers; 2 meals a day for over 100 Little Hearts at this time! 
One thing I know for sure, we can't do this alone! We need the guidance and wisdom of our Lord and Savior - first and foremost! None of this would've happened without Him going before us! And we need people like you that have a heart for the well being of others. Having a desire to see these little children learn, through loving and caring teachers, having their lives transformed by the power of God, so they can stand firm and be ever changed. Changed through learning and changed through a living relationship with a Holy Loving God.

We got new uniforms and shoes July 2025

The children were measured for shoes and fitted by a tailor for their uniforms.  It was a wonderful process and we can’t quit thanking God for this gift!  Mary and her staff did a great job accomplishing this huge task for 158 children!
