Out of a mission trip to Nairobi, Africa, September 2013, Little Hearts of Africa was formed in September 2015. Going to Africa wasn't a dream of mine or something I had desired, it was a direct call upon my life from God.
But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." II Cor 12:9 That's how I went to Africa, by His Grace, His Power and His Spirit resting upon me. I had never been out of the country before, let alone to a third world country. My main stay was in the largest slum of Kenya, Kibera. In the quiet times I had with God before I left for Nairobi, God told me he was going to give me a "little heart", but I had no concept of what that meant. However, God made it very clear that he was bringing a very special young lady who was about 22 years old at that time, into my life. God gave Mary to me and me to Mary. We adopted her into our family. Recently Mary officially started a school in Kibera, where she was raised. The School is for young children who can't afford to go to school and who would otherwise be out on the streets. Mary named the school "Becky's School."
Through Little Hearts of Africa, we can make a difference in the lives of little children that live in the slums of Kibera and provide an opportunity for them attend Becky's School at no cost to them. From the original 15 Little Hearts that began the school in 2015, we now serve over 150 Little Hearts today!! Praise God! "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ," Philippians 1:9-10 Little Hearts of Africa is not about sentiment or pity on these children; it's about growing Little Hearts that God places in our care. Growing them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Feeding them, educating and giving Little Hearts of all ages a HOPE to stand on their own, in Christ alone.
